Skills and Knowledge (may vary based on RVT certification):  

• Knowledge of standard medical abbreviations, normal vital parameters (ECG, TPR, BP, CO2, SPO2), and triage levels 
• Must enjoy speaking with clients, providing patient updates to clients, and reviewing financial estimates and medical documentation with clients 
• Able to follow hospital protocols and procedures consistently and accurately including medical documentation 
• Correctly obtain patient vital signs 
• Perform safe animal restraint utilizing fear-free techniques 
• Able to sedate and/or anesthetize, monitor, and recover patients 
• Perform highly diagnostic radiographs using appropriate techniques & positioning
• Perform venipuncture and IVC placement  
• Have knowledge of medications, uses, calculations, recognize correct dosages, and be able to communicate this knowledge to others.  
• Capable of safely administering PO, SQ, IM, IV and IO medications 
• Correctly able to communicate medical conditions to veterinarians, coworkers, and clients 
• Able to accurately utilize in-house laboratory equipment.  
• Have knowledge to confidently read and interpret slide agglutinations, platelet counts, manual CBC, urinalysis, ear cytology, and centrifuged fecal analysis.  
• Understand, recognize, and effectively communicate urgent care illnesses, diagnostic recommendations, and treatment options.  
• Able to properly initiate and facilitate basic and advanced life support
